Suzanne Smith comes to UHS after many years of working for and volunteering with nonprofit organizations. She has a BA in Latin American history from Wesleyan University and a MA in history from the University of Texas at Austin.  She teaches Spanish at UHS -- she started learning in 7th grade and never stopped! -- and emphasizes conversation as well as grammar. She's a firm believer in reading for pleasure, sticking with things even when they're hard, and participating in class.

This year Suzanne is teaching:
Spanish I and Spanish II
Math Circle  (with Miss Kirsten)
Children Around the World
Be the Change -- the practical aspect of social justice (with Julie Leary)
Project: Project! -- project management for teens (with Rob Enders)
Anime/Manga (with intern Justine Robinson)
The Power of Social Movements

Suzanne is relatively new to homeschooling (her son went to traditional public schools), but appreciates how this model makes it easier to adapt to students' learning styles.
