Join us for a wonderful introduction to a group experience for our younger students! Here the focus is on learning positivity, sharing, taking turns, listening to each other, and feeling seen and heard. Social-Emotional intelligence is key as children learn to feel at home with each other. Each child is encouraged to be who they are, sharing and offering their own thoughts, and finding their unique way of learning. We will have Circle Time including show and tell time to both bond as a group and practice important skills of listening and turn taking. Everyone will have a chance to share their voice.
With that as a base, together we journey into a supportive experience of numbers, math patterns, letters, and words connected to oral storytelling. As we progress through the year, building on letters, words, and ideas, children will learn at their own pace. Those who already read or are comfortable with math processes will have opportunities to practice and share their skills.
We will have nature-based activities and science units on astronomy, chemical reactions, natural formations, geography and weather. Science experiments and dynamic discussions that often connect to art projects are offered each week. We build on what was learned, and find connections over and over.
Singing, drumming, breath work and basic music notation are woven into the lessons as well. Kids learn a little American Sign Language, and have a chance to experience multi-cultural songs and stories. We provide kids with lots of seasonal arts and crafts projects, too.
When online, parents can help by setting their child up with their art supplies or science supplies nearby. Miss Rebecca will send parents a note about the theme or idea for a particular day or week including seasonal arts and crafts projects and dress-up days related to the themes. When we tune in online and see each other, it is very exciting! Miss Rebecca will set a timer for movement breaks online which will include yoga, fun and silly movement, and find-the-object in your house games!
Kits with simple art and science supplies are provided whether in person or online so that each child has their own equipment.
There a additional resources and projects on the Early Years page at UHS Online for children who need and want more to supplement their group learning.
